Giving

Hey everyone! Can you guys believe that Christmas is only 9 days away? Time goes by so fast. This season is all about giving so it's funny how God has really placed it on my heart this week. He's been teaching me a lot about being a cheerful giver and being generous. Through God's word I've also been learning a lot about how you don't have to have money to give. Giving of yourself and investing the gifts God has given to you into others lives is the ultimate way to give. Last night my youth group hosted a kids night. Basically parents from church signed their kids up and my youth group watched them for a few hours while the parents could go do whatever they wanted. I had no idea how much it would bless me. I'll be honest it was exhausting. Chasing a three year old around a playground, holding a one year old on your hip for most of the night, and making sure everyone was safe and having a good time will wear you out. As crazy as it was I found myself feeling great. When the parents came to get their kids I found myself not wanting to let go of the little one I bonded with, but I also saw the extreme gratefulness that the parents had. Some of them hadn't had time until now to go Christmas shopping because there was no one to watch the kids, others just needed to run errands or rest. It was so awesome to give of myself and offer the gifts that God has placed in me to contribute to helping others. When I came home tired and ready to sleep I decided to read one chapter in the bible before going to bed. I'm so glad I did. I've been reading in 2 Corinthians all week and this was in my next chapter.

"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.  Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.  And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.  Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!"- 2 Corinthians 9:12-15

This describes my experience in nut shell.  Remember that giving is so much better than receiving and that that's what Christmas is all about. We received the Ultimate gift from God, so it only makes sense to give to others out of the overflow of what God has given to us. Whether you have tons of money or very little, a lot of time on your hands or not enough, know that Jesus is the reason for the Season and that the gift of Christ is the greatest gift of all. Give of yourself, offer love to others, show that you care and then you to have accomplished giving a great gift.

                                                            Love,
                                                                Sofia
