There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today.
Human trafficking (sex slavery) is the third largest international crime industry.
It generates over $32 billion every year.
The average age of a trafficking victim is 12 years old. Imagine a 12 year old being forced to have sex with an adult man.
The average age of victims continues to grow younger as clients want "fresh" product.
Girls and Boys are kidnapped, sold by their family members , or tricked into this industry.
1-2% of victims are ever rescued.
"Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, mainly for the purposes of forced labor and sex trafficking. As the world's fastest growing criminal industry, it affects EVERY nation across the globe. Every thirty seconds, Someone is forced into this type of bondage-modern slavery." - A21 Campaign
These facts and statistics burden my heart. To know that this is happening and is real in today's world is absolutely horrifying. This is a reality. Its not just something that happens in movies like Taken. This is truth. As a passionate advocator for Human Trafficking there was no question that I would be participating in today's awareness day. A few years ago I watched Joyce Meyer on TV interviewing trafficking victims and my heart instantly went out to them and burned passionately inside of me to do something about it. I was scared for these girls. I couldn't imagine being taken from everything I know and forced to give up my innocence and dignity daily. So today on February 27th I stand against slavery. The End It Movement is an amazing foundation that has set aside this day to shine a light on slavery and bring awareness to the situation. People all over the world are drawing red x's on the back of their hands to bring awareness. Awareness doesn't solve everything, but it's only half of the battle. Just like the bible says "Faith without works is dead." I can draw a red x on the back of my hand act like I care and then go on with my life or I can draw a red x on my hand, truly care and continue fighting for the helpless. I choose to go with the second option. As a follower of Christ I believe with all of my heart that we as believers are supposed to help people. We are supposed to live selflessly and defend those who can't defend themselves. God has called me to take a stand for all of the girls and boys in this industry who can't stand up for themselves. Slavery is not cool, it's not okay, and Bodies are not Commodities. How can you help? First get informed then get involved.
