God has recently put love on my mind. It seems like everywhere I go examples of love, dating, Jesus, and purity keep popping up! I've started breaking it all down in a journal because it can be a lot to keep up with and I am really excited to share it all on Fashionably Faithful. I'm not to sure why God has been putting this specific topic on my mind so much, but I know it's for a reason and that I need to pay attention to what He is trying to tell me. Today a very important verse, that I think I had be neglecting, came to my attention. I am always so amazed at how God brings things to my attention. Today in school when I had free time in Psychology I went on Alyssa Bethke's blog (she's the wife of Jeff Bethke who is known for Jesus>Religion). Anyways I was just scrolling through and saw this verse.
"I can not forget you! I drew a picture of you on my hand. You are always before my eyes." Isaiah 49:15-16
I spent the rest of my day focusing on this verse, what it meant, and why it was brought to my attention. I think in life we tend to try and find our purpose, love, fulfillment, in people or things. Like boy friends, friendships, money, success The problem with this is that our fulfillment is supposed to be found in Christ. Just look at the verse. God has drawn (and in other translations it says "engraved") pictures of us, our names, on his hands! We are always before his eyes! He will never forget us, He says He can't! That is such a powerful love. No one can love us that way except God! Why do we spend so much time on finding fulfillment in things, when God offers so much to us? I like to use this verse like this. I imagine this: I come home from a long school day, I feel discouraged. I was ignored by my friends, everyone seems to be in some sort of relationship and have a significant other. I feel kind of alone, kicked to the side. That's when God steps in and says "Sofia! Look at me! I can't forget you! I drew a picture of you on my hand. You are always before my eyes! Stop trying to find acceptance and significance in others! I love you, I want you, come to me I will give you everything good, everything sweet, I will give you my love. You are mine and so so precious." This is what God says to all of us! I can just imagine Him watching us constantly trying to pursue all of these relationships hoping to get something out of them that can fill us up. And I imagine Him just thinking "you won't find it there, but you will find it with me in my arms in my unfailing love." This is so special to me. I am always before God's eyes always in his hands. I am complete in Him. That's where we find fullness. Finding this verse today was such a blessing! A lot of different questions about dating, and relationships that were running through my mind were answered through this verse. It's so important for me and all of us to realize how much comes out of being in an intimate relationship with Christ One thing about being a Christian that gives me excitement is that everyday is a day for me to grow closer and closer to God. I want Him to be my everything because He gave everything for me. I want to be able to know that if my closest friends, and family walked out on me today, that I would be okay, because God is my portion, He is my love, He is my creator, and He gives so graciously and intimately. This is a critical part of my relationship with Christ, and I'm continuing to grow in it. My encouragement to you today is to not forget who you are to God, and that true fullness comes through Jesus. And how great and sweet that fullness is!

Sofia

"You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ: you have
fallen away from grace." Galatians 5:4
Imagine this. You are given a long list of things to do. Not just simple things but difficult tasks.
1)Run 20 miles at 6 in the morning.
2) Make 100 rolls of Sushi in twenty minutes by 7 in the morning.
3) Take the next door neighbors five dogs for a walk while making an important business deal on the phone.
4) Learn how to speak Chinese in four days.
5) Gain eighty pounds in one week.
I know these things are weird and random but keep imagining. Now imagine that you would get a prize, a huge great amazing prize that you have been longing for so long and that you truly desire. But you can only get this special prize if you complete the list above. In your mind you're probably thinking "Well I'm never getting that prize." This is what so many Christians do. We make laundry lists of the things we think we need to complete in order to achieve grace, salvation, and God's love. Are list probably look more like this.
1)Go to Church
2) Be kind to others
3) Don't cuss
4) Stay away from drugs
5) Don't lie or steal
6) Don't have sex until marriage
And the list goes on and on and on. The problem is this. Grace, Salvation, and God's Love are not things we can earn. They are not things we can work for and achieve. It's not something we can win. They are gifts. God's Love is always there whether you choose to believe it or not. And salvation is put into our life's as soon as we receive the good news of Jesus Christ. So many of us try to work and work at being a "good Christian" but we rarely ever try to let God work in us to make us become more like Him. That's what it's all about, that's the big picture. You see none of our deeds can compare the the greatest deed of all. Which was Christ dying for our sins. God graciously gave us grace because of his unfailing love for us, and we can not work to achieve those things. Like it says in the bible verse above if you try to justify your selves by rules and guidelines, you are falling away from Christ. You're forgetting that Grace is not earned but it is a gift. Some people will argue "But doesn't God call us to do good works, to follow his law and command?" Yes he does! But you see as we fall in love with God and his glory, He transforms us from the inside out. Him not us. If it were up to us we would constantly be in this struggle thinking we have to earn God's love. But it's not up to us it's up to God, and when we truly surrender ourselves to him we start to do these list of things not because we feel like we have to but because we desire with all of our hearts to do so. When you love God so much his commands are your way of life and you love and honor them."This is love for God: To obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome." 1 John 5:3 That doesn't mean you won't mess up, but that's when Grace steps in. The whole point of this is to realize that we can't do it on our own. That making a mental list of things to do in order to be a Christian is pointless. The point is Christ died for us, God loves us with an everlasting love. And once we accept these truths, God starts to work in us and change our hearts to be more like him and less like the world.
Because it doesn't depend on me it depends on him
See because when I was God's enemy and certainly not a fan
He looked down and said I want, that, man
Which is why Jesus hated religion, and for it he called them fools
Don't you see so much better than just following some rules Not based on my merits but Jesus's obedience alone- Jeff Bethke

The Daily Find
Hey guys! So today a new idea dawned on me. Why not cover fashion that I see around my school. School is where I spend most of my time and I get tons of ideas and inspirations from looking at hundreds of students outfits everyday. I think it's a good idea to cover fashion around school because it's a great way to show what people like you are actually wearing not just movie starts or supermodels. I think it's a practical yet fun way to look at different styles.

Wild Things
Hey guys! I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far! One of my favorite Christian rappers is Andy Mineo. His new album Heroes For Sale just came out last week and it is so awesome. The message he brings throughout his album is one of grace, forgiveness and talking about living unashamed of the cross. If you like rap, I highly recommend that you go listen to it! Anyways the reason why I'm bringing him up is because on his new album he has a song called " Wild Things" This song has opened up my eyes and heart so much to something that I had been avoiding.
Welcome to the church in the wild
I live with dudes haven't been to church in a while
I've chosen this lifestyle, you ever met my friends?
Porn stars, dope dealers, they like, "Why you chill with them"?
I thought you was a Christian? Yeah I'm on that team
But I'm with them cause my life's the only bible that they've ever seen
Some wanna be an earshot from the church bell
I wanna win souls, make gunshots in the worst hell
Telling 'em Christ became a curse for they sin with my words and my works
They won't come in? I'm bringing church to them
Yeah, that's why I live where I live
They say, "You acting cray, that ain't no place to raise your kids"
But um, if we ain't living it who else gon' show em
What a family supposed to look like instead of them broken homes
Gotta be living stones around where they getting stoned
Live and know Him, die to make Him known 'til He take us home, let's go
This is the first part of the song, and when I heard it I just had to pause and think. I feel like I completely went against what this song was saying. I'm always trying to stay away from the people that are into drugs, or living these sin filled crazy lifestyles, but I'm starting to think that's not right. These were the thoughts going through my head and I started to become confused, so I took it to the one place I knew I would find answers. The Bible.
It's amazing how God works because I instantly found this verse.
"Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: "I desire mercy, not sacrifice. "For I have not come to call the righteous, but the sinners." Matthew 9:12-13
All of my confusion and doubt was stopped right here. Jesus ate with sinners, he accepted them he loved them and called them, because they were the ones who needed saving. If this is what Jesus did then we are supposed to do it to. I started to fill kind of disappointed with my self for not living like this, but then I realized that God brought this to my attention for a reason, and I believe that that reason was for me to realize that I'm supposed be a living stone, not just around lukewarm Christians, not just around unbelievers, but around everyone. Drug dealers, addicts, cheaters, liars haters, everyone! Although I felt conviction I started to feel grateful and blessed that God loves me enough to bring something to my attention and guide me along the path of light and righteousness that leads to him. It was a really great experience for me because I became humble knowing that I'm not perfect and make mistakes but there's forgiveness and that is so awesome. The lesson I've learned from all of this is that it's time to go where the Wild things are. It's time to step out of my comfort zone and put my self in places where people don't even know what the Gospel is. By doing that not only am I spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, but I'm showing people who are lost and broken, what a life with Christ looks like. I hope you guys can take something from this like I did. I'm so blessed and happy it came to my attention, and I am ready to start going where the Wild Things are. Are you?

Being on Fire For Christ in a World that says "You're young, party, drink, enjoy life, before you're to old."
In today's world teenagers and young adults are constantly getting fed the idea that since we're young we need to live recklessly. We need to go out, party, drink, have sex, and just be "Young, Wild and Free." It will only be so soon before we're old and have kids of our own and big responsibilities so we mine as well live it up right now right? Well yeah, but not so much in the way the World tells us. In Ecclesiastes 11:9 it says
"Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgement."
This is the perfect bible verse for Christians who think being young is an excuse for partying, drinking, etc... When we are young, we're supposed to have fun. We're supposed to be joyous and happy, we're still growing and learning, and discovering new things, and all of that is great. But it is so important to remember that it's not an excuse. God doesn't say "Because she or he is young, I will allow them to get drunk, dishonor their bodies, and do whatever they please, and look at it as acceptable." The bible verse "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit. (Eph 5:18)" Does not just apply to adults, it applies to everyone. The bible verse that says "Honor God with your body (1 Cor 6: 20)" does not just apply to Mom's or Grandmothers but to teenage boys and girls everywhere! Being young is a great thing! It's a time to grow and learn and enjoy friends, and late nights, but it's also a time to build your relationship with Christ and set an example for others.
" Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
This is such a beautiful verse in the Bible. Just in one sentence it gives us the guidelines on being young. How we should handle it and what it's all about. So think about being young and how you can be an example to other believers ( and non believers) by your speech, life, love, faith, and purity. I hope you guys can take something from this and realize that the World will constantly tell you being young means a time for being crazy but remember " Do not conform to the patterns of this World but be transformed by the renewing of your minds," Romans 12:2. Don't let being young be a burden, and hardship on your relationship with Christ, let being young be a blessing to your life and relationship with Christ.
This is the last part to the 3 part series "Being on Fire For Christ in a world that only wants you to be warm." I hope you guys took something from each part of the series. My goal was to write about what the worlds view on certain things is and how being on Fire for Christ will change your views and make them less like the world and more like Christ. I can promise you that being on Fire for Jesus is such an abundant blessing and has impacted my life in some amazing ways. I pray that you can learn how to be on fire for Christ and become more like him and less like the World.

Wasting my time? I don't think so.
Being on Fire for Christ in a world that tells you you're wasting your time.
"I'm in this constant pursuit of the one who is risen, while the world is always trying to get me bound up in their prison. When they should be seeking the man who died on the cross, their busy seeking a man who they think will fill the loss that is building up inside But that's the problem with our world. Love isn't found in the boy that you date, your emptiness isn't filled in those drugs you take. Success isn't gained in the money you make. Good looks aren't achieved by that makeup on your face. But you see all of these things, Love, Fullness, Success, and outward appearance are found in the only person who can offer forgiveness of the sins we commit constantly and daily. We deny Him with our life's but for some reason He still wants to save me. I know it sounds crazy but it is so true. That man who died on the cross years ago did it for me and for you. He wiped away our shame, and took away our sin, He forgave us and loves us even though we can't offer anything to Him. That man who is God's only son bled on that cross so that we can have life in paradise, worshiping a holy and righteous God who sent us His son so we can have life. I don't know about you but this sounds amazing to me, I'm forgiven, I'm washed, my chains are broken and I have been set free. Because of this man, I'm constantly fighting temptation and sin and living my life to honor and follow him. There will be times I fall short but He will be there to pick me up, because God never leaves or forsakes us. I feel so alive, I feel so new, the emptiness I once felt no longer controls what I do. Christ has filled me beyond words can describe, the love that I seek is no longer in guys, the emptiness I need filled can't be found in getting high, the money I have doesn't measure my success, and the makeup I wear can't make me anymore of what I already am. I've found this new life in the savior of my soul, For once in my life I really feel whole. I offer myself as a living sacrifice serving Jesus and living so that others can see Christ. I want people to know how loved they are that Jesus Christ can heal your broken heart. He is the one that is my love, He is the one that is my drug, He is the one that gives me success and He is the one that brings me beauty and loveliness. I'm so in love, sometimes I don't know what to do. Jesus has captured my heart. Because of Him I am brand new."
This is my only way of explaining how you're not wasting your time. By seeking Christ you are constantly being filled with wisdom, love, prosperity, and truth. The only way were wasting our time, is if were running form the Gospel, if were running from his love. You're not wasting your time, by being on Fire for Christ you're making the most of it. By being on Fire for Christ you are receiving the most amazing gift that you will ever get! The world will always have an excuse, the world will always try to pull you away and make you question, but by putting your hope in Jesus Christ you will gain life. By putting your hope in the Lord your time becomes precious. Above I explained my most deepest feelings toward Jesus, the way I think about him and how I see him from my perspective. I just wrote it in school today without even thinking and when I went back and read it, I was like "Wow God is so awesome! Look at all he has done for me, look at the gift of love and life he has offered." I knew I had to share this. To me that passage I wrote shows that the time I invest in prayer, and worshiping God is not a waste but a reward.
Trust in God's unfailing love! And rejoice because Jesus has saved you from Death! This is definitely worth my time! |

Caution: Highly Flammable
Hey guys! It's day one of Fashionably Faithful's series "Being on fire for Christ in a world that only wants you to be warm" and I am so excited to present it to you. I hope that over the course of this series your eyes and hearts start to open to what God has really called us to do with our life's, and how we can stop being warm but on fire.
1) Fire-
1) Fire-
a state, process, or instance of combustion in which fuel or other material is ignited and combined with oxygen, giving off light, heat, and flame.
What does it mean to be on Fire for Christ? Sometimes when people ask me about my relationship with Jesus or why I love him, or what it feels like, I literally say I'm just so on fire for Christ.I sometimes get puzzled looks. When saying this I obviously don't literally mean, oh yeah I'm burning there is fire on me. I'm talking about the feeling that's in my heart. It's like this big warmth that just keeps building and building to the point of me wanting nothing else in my life but the satisfaction of God's love and word. I become so enveloped in his presence that I start to look at everything that's not of him, about him,or for him, as something crazy.I know this sounds pretty intense. And it is. But the thing is it's what's supposed to happen. There are so many Christians that settle for warmth. That settle for going to church on Sunday's and then when they leave they start listening to music that deny's Christ, or Go to the club on Friday and then go to a bible study the next day. These things are sinful and they contradict with a lifestyle that God has called us to live.If you look at Revelation 3:16 Jesus says this, "So because you are lukewarm neither hot nor cold- I am about to spit you out of my mouth." I think the big problem is the ignorance we use toward the bible. So many Christians don't take the word of God seriously and literally. Do you realize what Jesus just said? He will spit you out of his mouth for being lukewarm. This is serious. It's not something to take lightly, it's not just another bible verse that a pastor uses to convict you. It is God giving us commands, and the consequences if we don't follow them. Being lukewarm leads to absolute nothingness. Jesus didn't say, "You can love me and say you're a Christian, and live however you want" He said " If you love me, you will obey my commands." John 14:15. I mean think about that do you really love Jesus enough to obey his commands, not just one but all. I showed you the definition of Fire at the top, I like to look at my self as the "fuel" or "other material" and I like to look at Christ as the oxygen. As soon as he meets with me, I give off light, heat, and flame. In the definition it also says the fire is either a state, process, or instance. Sometimes when I'm in Church I'm in a state of fire, I feel this yearning and burning as the pastor is preaching. My life is a never ending process of fire, the flames are always getting bigger and bigger. And sometimes I'll just have random instances where I'm like "man I just love God so much, I want to scream." My Pastor Jim Railey once said "I want you to look at you're neighbor ( person sitting next to you in church) and say neighbor watch out because I am highly flammable." Him saying this really opened my eyes to being on fire for Christ. The world doesn't want you to be, as a matter of fact there are "Christians" that say the bible shouldn't be taken so seriously (I used to be one of them) and that you don't have to be all Jesus crazy that's only for certain people. Well guess what? It's time to stop listening to the world, it's time to stop listening to people who say you shouldn't be so serious about Christ, because loving him and serving him is a serious thing. There's no time to be warm, that won't get you through. It's time to be radical for Christ, to put him before ourselves, and live differently than everyone else. It's time to be on fire for him, his love, and his word "for our "God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:29

Polka Dots
Hey guys! Happy Saturday! I hope everyone had a good week so far. Today I want to talk about polka dots. I love them! It's one of my biggest fashion obsessions, even if they go out of style (which I don't think they will) I can see myself wearing them for the rest of my life. As Christian Dior says " They are lovely, elegant, easy, and always in fashion. I never get tired of dots." In his book The Little Dictionary of Fashion (which I love), he gives, I think, the best advice there is on how to wear dots. "Tiny dots are most suitable for petite figures. Big coin dots are good for tall people. And if you are not so slim you need to choose lighter dots on a dark background and not vice versa. Dots are lovely for holiday clothes- cotton frocks and beach outfits- and they are gay too, for accessories. According to their color, so they can be versatile...Black and white for elegance; soft pinks and blues for prettiness; emerald, scarlet, and yellow for gaiety; beige and gray for dignity." He just gave a complete guide on how to wear dots in a paragraph and that's why I'm using it on Fashionably Faithful, so that you fashionistas out there who might question dots, or aren't so sure how to wear them, can have all your're doubts thrown out and questions answered hear.
